Those who protect us will be honoured at the NATO Days 2020

An important part of the weekend programme of NATO Days in Ostrava & Czech Air Force Days will be the ceremonial awarding of members of the Integrated Rescue System (IRS) and security forces, who significantly contributed to coping with the coronavirus crisis during the Spring.

The COVID-19 pandemic, which reached the Czech Republic in March this year, meant a heavy burden not only for the healthcare system but also for the army, IRS units, hygienic stations, municipal police officers, customs officers and other units. At the ceremony with the subtitle "Thank you to those who protect us", which will take place as part of the weekend program, a thousand of IRS and security forces members will receive commemorative medals from the highest representatives of the Government of the Czech Republic.

"In close coordination with the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of the Interior, we would like to thank the representatives of all those who fought the disease in the front line," said Zbyněk Pavlačík, Chairman of Jagello 2000. "We are honoured to hold this ceremony because they are also traditional participants at the NATO Days in Ostrava. However, we would not be able to do this without the support of our partners, especially the Moravian-Silesian Region and the Statutory city of Ostrava."

"We want to thank them for what they did for us during the pandemic and may still have to do it in the future," said the Governor of the Moravian-Silesian Region Ivo Vondrák.

On Saturday, 500 members of the Czech Army, the Czech Prison Service, the Czech Customs Administration and the Ostrava Municipal Police will receive the award, and on Sunday, 500 members of the Czech Police, the Czech Fire and Rescue Service, hygienic stations and the medical rescue service.

At the same time, they will be able to watch the program at the venue as part of the thank you after the ceremony.
