NATO Days in Ostrava & Czech Air Force Days Full of Premieres

Military and security units from 16 states will attend forthcoming NATO Days in Ostrava & Czech Air Force Days on September 19 and 20 at Ostrava Leos Janacek Airport. The 15th edition of the event offers very attractive programme including 43 displays enriched by some of the Czech and foreign premieres. Visitors can enjoy 240 minutes of displays both in the air and on the ground during the two days of this unique event. 

A major premiere will comprise Jordan’s Female Company for Special Security Tasks (FCSST) which will perform at the event of this kind for the first time outside of Jordan. These female soldiers represent the elite of the Jordanian security forces and will cooperate with Czech 102nd Reconnaissance Battalion during the dynamic display. Nowadays, Jordan is a part of American coalition which fights against so called Islamic state, therefore the dynamic display with a topic of rescue of prisoners will be demonstration of their real training. The support of the Czech Embassy in Amman, which currently serves as NATO Contact Point Embassy, was crucial in negotiations about the participation of FCSST.

Sweden as a Special Partner Nation of NATO Days in Ostrava & Czech Air Force Days will present itself with a wide range of army equipment including ground, air and also historical military ones. Furthermore this Nordic state will use, as the very first participant, its strategic transport capacities to transport the ground equipment. Thus Sweden will benefit from its membership in Strategic Airlift Capability multinational programme to use the C-17 aircraft from Hungarian Pápa AFB for transportation. Moreover, the visitors in Mošnov will have an opportunity to see one of the biggest strategic transport aircraft, C-17 Globemaster III, on static display through the whole event. It has been already eight years since C-17 arrived for the last time in the Czech Republic – the visitors could see the aircraft at NATO Days in Ostrava and at CIAF show in Brno in 2007.

Swedish Air Force Historic Flight participates for the third time in a row at NATO Days in Ostrava, however this time with three aircraft for a dynamic display including Ostrava’s audience well-known supersonic Viggen and Drakken all together with support aircraft Saab 105 and a premiere of Swedish fighter “flying barrel” Tunnan. As you can see, this would be the largest participation of this unique unit, which presented itself only by two aircrafts in the past two years but always has a major visitors’ response.

The first public presentation of the jet demonstrator L-39NG, the Czech successor of legendary Aero L-39 Albatros. The aircraft is a part of AERO Vodochody AEROSPACE a.s. production and has a great assumptions to become another successful jet trainer-aircraft of this traditional Czech producer. The L-39NG is based on famous Czech aircraft Aero L-39 Albatros, which has been the world’s most widely used jet trainer-aircraft.

Out of the international participants, the premiere arrival of anti-submarine aircraft P-3 Orion of Royal Norwegian Air Force is also worth noted. Besides static display, P-3 Orion will perform a flyby during Sunday’s programme as well due to its earlier departure.

Moreover, we are proud to announce the return of the last year’s star: U.S Air Force’s tiltrotor military aircraft CV-22B Osprey, which will be seen on the static display through the both days. This unique aircraft is able to combine the functionality both of helicopter and plane and thus rightfully became admired by 2014 NATO Days’ visitors, who were allowed to see the tiltrotor aircraft also from inside. However due to the operational duties, Osprey had to left on Saturday which should not happened this year. Another attraction will definitely be the various presentation of German army: ground (Heer), air (Luftwaffe) and marine (Marine) altogether with ground forces’ helicopter on dynamic display.

Last but not least, the Czech Air Force will present maximum of its capabilities. The tactical air force will be as usually represented by supersonic fighter JAS-39 Gripen, which has been deployed at the NATO’s Air Policing mission in Iceland quite recently. “Furthermore, the visitors can enjoy the 212nd Tactical Wing’s presentation of simulated attack at the ground target alongside with help of two L-159 Advanced Light Combat Aircraft for the first time since 2008. There will be the possibility to see the classical L-159, training L-39ZA and two-seat L-159T1 on the static display as well.
