Norwegian P-3 Orion Will Perform a Flyby Over Mošnov for the First Time

01.09.2015, 13:12

Another historical premiere is prepared for this year’s NATO Days & Czech Air Force Days visitors: P-3 Orion aircraft of Royal Norwegian Air Force will perform a flyby over Ostrava airport during Sunday’s programme. Nothing similar has been ever seen in the Czech Republic.

The possible shortening of static display has been already declared by Royal Norwegian Air Force due to the Alliance’s duties, which are connected to the current situation in Northern and Eastern Europe. Regarding this operational duties, Orion will depart even before the very end of the event which will on the other hand enrich the flight programme.

„The aircraft will fly off to its home base Andøya on Sunday after necessary pre-flight preparations. Therefore the Sunday’s visitors will have an extra opportunity to experience the flyby of this four-engine turboprop aircraft,” said Zbyněk Pavlačík, the chairman of Jagello 2000. “The question mark still lays over the flyby with open bomb bay and thus the possibility to see a kind of simulated anti-submarine attack, which we had a chance to personally witness during Australian International Airshow in Avalon presented by Australian AP-3C Orion. However the final decision stays up to Norwegian crew,” noted Pavlačík.

P-3 Orion serves in Royal Norwegian Air Force since 1960’s primary as an anti-submarine and maritime surveillance aircraft. Despite the fact that P-3 is a part of many European states’ equipment, the organizers of the event sought especially this Norwegian one.
