Austrian Black Hawk back on dynamic display
After thirteen years, the legendary S-70 Black Hawk in Austrian colours will return to the Mošnov skies. During this year's dynamic displays at the NATO Days in Ostrava & the Days of the Air Force of the Czech Air Force multi-purpose helicopters, it will compete with the German NH-90.
Austria continues its streak of participation, which has been unbroken since its debut in 2010. In recent years, it has presented itself mainly through the Eurofighter Typhoon or the Saab 105, but for this year's event it has prepared a dynamic display of a helicopter that is one of the most iconic in its category.
"Although Austria is a neutral state, it is a partner country of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and is thus an important part of the European security architecture," comments Zbyněk Pavlačík, Chairman of Jagello 2000. "Its repeated presentation at NATO Days is proof of this and we are pleased that after so many years it will repeat the audience's favourite Black Hawk helicopter display. During the last years this machine has been repeatedly on display in the Slovak Air Force presentation, so it will be interesting to compare the capabilities of pilots from these two neighbouring countries on the same helicopter."
The Austrian Air Force began operating Black Hawk machines at the turn of the millennium during the expansion of the helicopter squadron and uses them mainly for transport or rescue missions at home and abroad, or for fighting forest fires. Specifically, it has the S-70 version, which is a commercial type of the well-known UH-60 designed for export. The Austrian Air Force currently has 9 units, but has 12 more on order for the future in the upgraded UH-60M version.
