Czech Red Cross highlights the importance of international cooperation

04.09.2025, 17:27

The Czech Red Cross will once again take part in this year’s NATO Days in Ostrava & Czech Air Force Days. In a presentation that has become an integral part of the event over the years, it will be joined by colleagues from Poland and Germany.

Visitors can look forward to hands-on demonstrations of first aid techniques. They will have the opportunity to try out classic cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the treatment of simulated injuries. A brand-new feature will be a comprehensive crisis scenario simulation using virtual reality, offering a realistic experience of the pressure and dynamics of emergency situations. The presentation will also include a demonstration of intervention facilities—from the operation of a field headquarters and medical post to the work of volunteers in the field. A special highlight will be a project on potable water treatment under crisis conditions, a key element of humanitarian aid in the aftermath of natural disasters and armed conflicts.

The exhibition will also showcase the long and rich history of the Czech Red Cross. In a replica of a historic medical station, visitors will gain an impression of how healthcare was provided in the past. At the same time, the presentation will offer insights into present-day activities. Volunteers will introduce the principles of international humanitarian law and the tracing service, which helps reunite families separated by war or disaster. Attendees will also be able to meet people with first-hand experience from humanitarian missions both at home and abroad. Furthermore, they will learn more about one of the organization’s core activities—voluntary blood donation—and the recognition system for long-term donors who contribute to saving lives.

This year’s program will be supported by approximately 25 Czech volunteers together with 10 colleagues from Poland and Germany. They will bring not only their expertise but also equipment and technology for visitors to explore up close. The participation of international teams will thus provide a unique opportunity to view Red Cross activities from multiple perspectives.

The Czech Red Cross is one of the largest humanitarian organizations in the Czech Republic and part of the global International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, active in 192 countries. Its mission is to help people regardless of nationality, race, religion, or political beliefs. At NATO Days, visitors will therefore encounter not only practical demonstrations but also an organization that for over 150 years has stood as a symbol of help and solidarity.
