Greek Mirage 2000 returns to Ostrava

29.05.2025, 08:03

This year's NATO Days in Ostrava & Czech Air Force Days will offer visitors another rarity. After 16 years, the Greek Air Force will present two Mirage 2000 fighter jet in a static display.

The iconic fourth-generation multirole fighter aircraft has won the hearts of military aviation enthusiasts especially with its agility and elegant design. The Hellenic Air Force will present an upgraded version of the Mirage 2000-5, which has only appeared once at Ostrava Airport, in Greek colours in 2009.

"The Mirage 2000-5 has proven its quality during combat deployments, but is now gradually being replaced by newer aircraft. Thus, they are becoming rare guests at air shows and we are very happy that this aircraft will be heading to us again thanks to the Greek Air Force," comments the Chairman of the Jagello 2000 Association, Zbyněk Pavlačík.

The Mirage 2000s were manufactured by the French company Dassault between 1978 and 2007. A total of 601 aircraft were built in various variants, almost half of which were exported. Besides France and Greece, the main users include the air forces of India, the United Arab Emirates, and Taiwan. In addition, France is currently transferring some of its retired aircraft to Ukraine as part of its assistance against Russian aggression.

The Greek Air Force uses the aircraft primarily for air defence, but in various configurations they are also capable of offensive operations or radio-electronic warfare. In the past, their strike sister variants N and D were presented at Ostrava Airport during NATO Days in dynamic displays by the French aerobatic teams Ramex Delta and Couteau Delta.
