Prague Castle Guard will escort a convoy and show its equipment

Members of the Prague Castle Guard will participate in this year's NATO Days in Ostrava & Czech Air Force Days in order to demonstrate their skills and capabilities. Visitors can look forward to a dynamic display of its motorcycle unit which will exhibit an escort of top state officials, as well as a static display of both contemporary and historic equipment.

The motorcycle unit of the Prague Castle Guard will again present itself at Mošnov airport in a popular dynamic display showing an escort of the President of the Czech Republic and high representatives of foreign countries during official visits. There will also be prepared a presentation of eight modern, customized BMW R motorcycles which should be accompanied by Škoda Superb and Land Rover Discovery cars.

Visitors will be able to take a closer look at this equipment, together with both previous and historical models of motorcycles such as BMW K 75 RT or BMW R 69 S,in a static display. The Prague Castle Guard will also show its impressive collection of both cold weapons and firearms, which its members carry, as well as uniforms.

“Although the Prague Castle Guard is viewed more as a ceremonial unit by the public, it is also an important component of the armed forces with significant duties and it only rarely presents itself to the public at similar events,” emphasizes Zbyněk Pavlačík, the chairman of Jagello 2000. “Its members will also attend the Action Afternoon in Dolní Vítkovice.”

The Castle Guard is a part of the Armed Forces of the Czech Republic, however, itstands outside of the structure of the Army and is commanded by the Military Office of the President. The Prague Castle Guard, which is the size of a brigade, has about 600 soldiers, who must fulfil, in addition to general requirements, number of specific criteria to join the unit. For example, they have to have a certain height as well as a given look including the absence of facial hair or tattoos.
