Wings of the Storm will spread in the Ostrava sky

01.05.2025, 08:41

The second aerobatic group confirmed its participation in this year's NATO Days in Ostrava & Czech Air Force Days. It is the Croatian group Wings of the Storm, which will offer its aerobatic skills on six PC-9M turbo-prop trainer aircraft.

The main purpose of this six-member formation is to present the capabilities, training, and teamwork of the Croatian Air Force. Unlike most aerobatic groups, its pilots are still active flight instructors and use standard unmodified aircraft without smoke emitters in their performances. Thus, the entire effect of the display is dependent solely on the skill of the pilots. Visitors will thus have the opportunity to compare two different concepts of group aerobatics thanks to the previously confirmed participation of the British Red Arrows with Hawk jets.

"The Croatian Wings of the Storm are among the most highly regarded aerial aerobatic acts in their category. During their performances they fly at speeds of up to 550 km/h and approach at distances of less than two metres," comments Zbyněk Pavlačík, Chairman of Jagello 2000. "This group's participation in NATO Days has already been thwarted twice by bad weather. We are so glad that they are still in favour of our event and we believe that this year they will show their skills to the visitors of Mosnov airport after seven years."

The group Wings of the Storm (Croatian: Krila Oluje) first appeared in 2004, then still in a four-member form. A year later it grew to five members and since 2009 it has been in its current six-member form. Although the number has increased over the years, the pilots still operate on the same machines. These are two-seat Pilatus PC-9M turboprop trainers of Swiss manufacture. A total of 14 of them are in service with the Croatian Air Force and are primarily intended for advanced training for future supersonic pilots. Besides Croatia, the Bulgarian, Slovenian and Mexican air forces also use them.
