Half year to this year's NATO Days in Ostrava - what will they be like?

02.04.2021, 16:36

In six months, this year's NATO Days in Ostrava & Czech Air Force Days will be a thing of the past. Given the current circumstances and the uncertain development of the COVID-19 pandemic, we would like to answer the growing number of questions about the format of this year's event. Currently, however, we can only outline the possibilities that lie ahead.

We are in the time of the biggest restrictions so far, which are to reverse the course of the epidemic in the Czech Republic. Vaccination is also in full swing, which, according to experience from abroad, significantly reduces the spread of coronavirus. However, new mutations also come into play, all of which means great uncertainty in predicting future developments. It is therefore not surprising that many of this year's European aviation events have already been postponed or canceled.

We are doing everything we can to prevent us from taking this step, but what are the other options ahead?

  1. Normal regime - just like you, we would like the epidemic to end soon and to be able to welcome 100,000 visitors to the event area every day
  2. Event with visitors according to regime and hygiene measures (currently the most probable) - mass events will be allowed subject to certain conditions; these may include the need for a negative test, a vaccination certificate, or a capacity limit
  3. Live broadcast (crisis variant) - last year we were convinced that it makes sense for the model "for spectators, without visitors", where a live program takes place in the event area, which can be watched via TV and Internet broadcasts, and so this design is between considered variants for this year as well.
  4. Cancellation of the edition - it cannot be ruled out that it will not be possible to organize any of the previous variants, so it will be necessary to reschedule the 21st NATO Days in Ostrava & the 12th Czech Air Force Days for 2022.

"If we look at the developments in previous months, it is really not possible to say with certainty what the situation will be in half a year," adds Zbyněk Pavlačík, Chairman of Jagello 2000. "However, due to the necessary preparations, we will have to narrow these possibilities significantly in June at the latest. At that time, the rules for organizing summer music festivals and other similar events will also be known, from which our plans will be based."
