Slovakia expands its participation: Black Hawk in the air and the return of the Albatros!
It is hard to imagine NATO Days in Ostrava & Czech Air Force Days without Slovakia’s participation. This year will be no exception, with the Slovak Air Force once again taking part in both the dynamic displays and the static exhibition.
After nine years, the jewel of Czechoslovak technological heritage – the L-39 Albatros – will return to the static display. At Mošnov Airport, it will be joined by two versatile UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters, which in recent years have become a popular fixture at NATO Days. This year, visitors will be able to see two aircraft – one on static display and the other performing in the dynamic programme. The Slovak machines will be complemented by an Austrian Air Force Black Hawk in the S-70 version, giving the public a unique opportunity to compare two variants of this iconic helicopter, used for a wide range of missions from transport to search-and-rescue operations.
“Since 2006, Slovakia has not missed a single edition of NATO Days, making it one of our most dedicated participants. We are therefore delighted that this tradition continues during the jubilee 25th edition,” said Zbyněk Pavlačík, Chairman of Jagello 2000.
The L-39 Albatros is a legendary Czechoslovak trainer aircraft that for decades has been used in the training of military pilots worldwide. However, with Slovakia planning to replace these ageing aircraft with new trainers in the near future, this may be one of the last opportunities to see the Albatros in Slovak colours. The aircraft has long been valued for its reliability, excellent handling, and even the ability to perform light combat missions.
