75 years ago, the bloodiest war in human history World War II ended. At the jubilee 20th NATO Days in Ostrava & ACR Air Force Days, we will commemorate this round anniversary with a demonstration of the fighting during the liberation of Czechoslovakia with the involvement of historical technology.

Thanks to the cooperation with the Silesian Museum, spectators of NATO Days can look forward to the reconstruction of strategically important battles for the village of Štítina, which preceded the liberation of Opava and Ostrava. This demonstration will involve both heavy ground vehicles, including the Soviet T-34 tank or Hetzer tank destroyer, and aircraft, represented by replicas of fighters Jakovlev JAK-3 and Messerschmitt Bf-109.

"Even though 75 years is a relatively long time, it is still necessary to remember this conflict and celebrate its end. We must not allow such horrors to be repeated," notes Zbyněk Pavlačík, chairman of Jagello 2000." We thank the Silesian Museum for preparing this demonstration, which also coordinates it with the Military History Institute and military history clubs, which will provide their equipment and vehicles."

Members of the 1st Czechoslovakian tank brigade took part in the battles for the village of Štítin, together with the 4th Ukrainian front. On April 15, 1945, after crossing the borders at Sudice and Rohov, these troops launched an attack in the Ostrava-Opava area, where it was necessary to create small bridgeheads, from which it was possible to develop an attack on Opava and Ostrava. It was important to cut off transport links between the two cities. The 1st Czechoslovakian tank brigade, after crossing the Opava River in the section Kravaře - Zábřeh, was given the task of breaking through Štítina, Mokré Lazce and Velká Polom into the area of the 11th Rifle Corps of the soviet 30th Army.

The fight for Štítina itself began after a previous survey on April 18. The 107th and 322nd Rifle Divisions of the 15th Rifle Corps provided cooperation to the Czechoslovak tank brigade. After hard fighting, the village was liberated on the same day and the troops could advance on Mokré Lazce. The expansion of the bridgeheads in this area was significant for the continuation of further fighting in the offensive direction. The area between Opava and Ostrava was one of the damaged regions in what was then Czechoslovakia.
