The City Council of Ostrava approved the support for the NATO Days in Ostrava & Czech Air Force Days

27.02.2023, 15:35

Preparations for the 2023 NATO Days in Ostrava & Czech Air Force Days are underway and the first countries have confirmed their participation. The costs of organizing the event increase every year, but the entrance for visitors remains free. The support of the city is also an integral part of the largest security show in Europe. And just last Wednesday, the council approved support in the amount of 3 million Czech crowns.

The Municipality of Ostrava is a long-term supporter of the NATO Days in Ostrava & Czech Air Force Days and also participates in the event itself. Visitors can watch, for example, a dynamic display by the Municipal Police's mounted unit, store a bicycle in the bike sheds, which are also supervised by police officers from Ostrava, or vote on social media for the best aerial display, which will win the Mayor's Award.

"Ostrava has been a partner of the NATO Days practically since its inception. It is great to see how this unique event is still evolving, responding to developments in the world, while still maintaining its appeal to tens of thousands of visitors. We consider our support for the NATO Days to be a contribution of the city of Ostrava to the anchoring of our country in a strong defence alliance, such as NATO. The need for such anchoring was also clearly demonstrated by the Russian invasion of Ukraine, just a few hundred kilometres from our borders," said the mayor of the city, Tomáš Macura.

Free entry to the event is possible largely thanks to our marketing partners, but the city subsidy also plays a role. And it was at Wednesday's meeting of the city council that a grant of 3 million Czech crowns was approved for the organization of the NATO Days in Ostrava & Czech Air Force Days 2023.

Almost all of the 51 city representatives present voted in favour of providing the subsidy - only one abstained (Ostravská levice) and two (SPD and Ostravská levice) decided not to vote.

"We thank and appreciate the support of the statutory city of Ostrava," said Jagello 2000 chairman Zbyněk Pavlačík.
