NATO Days in Ostrava expecting a fully filled edition

15.06.2018, 11:38

Exactly three months from now, the dynamic demonstrations of 18th NATO Days in Ostrava & 9th Czech Air Force Days will be in full swing. Current expectations suggest a full-fledged program with rich static demonstrations and an extraordinary reminder of the 100th anniversary of the independent Czechoslovakia and its armed forces.

A specialty of this year's edition will be an emphasis on the presentation of the historical equipment, which is coordinated by the Silesian Museum. This will remind us of the past 100 years and will occupy a large part of the venue. At the same time, it will participate in dynamic displays. Nevertheless, the Mosnov airport will still host an unabated number of modern equipment from the current armament of armed and security forces.

"Regular visitors of our event may wonder how it is possible to fit more vehicles than in previous years into the area, but we have managed to find some reserves, and the airport will be really even fuller than ever before," says Zbynek Pavlacik, chairman of Jagello 2000. "Still, as of today, we have already completely filled up static displays area as well as a dynamic demonstrations programme."

It counts not just the currently eight confirmed solo aircraft performances and the premiere of Croatian Wings of Storm group, but also mentioned displays involving historical vehicles, including aircraft, dynamic ground demonstrations of the Czech Army and security forces.

To date, we have published 13 countries and three more are confirmed and will be revealed in coming weeks. At the same time, other countries are still negotiating, including one attractive non-European country. We also expect that already-published countries can expand their presence, and so, even there is only 29 aircraft in the current list, up to a hundred aircraft could be arriving at Mošnov airport, either for demonstrations or as a support.

"Of course, the fans are also waiting for the details of the United States' participation, and we can only reveal so much that we are expecting equipment both of the Air Force and the Army to be presented in a number that corresponds to the USA's status of the Special Partner Nation. We're still negotiation with top US representatives and we expect that last details will be not known probably until September," reveals Pavlacik.

An almost complete range of supersonic combat aircraft used by allied states will show their flying capabilities - Eurofighter Typhoon (Spain and the United Kingdom), F-16 (Belgium and Denmark), F/A-18 (Finland), JAS-39 Gripen (Hungary), MiG-29 (Slovakia) and last but not least the French Rafale.

On the static displays will be seen new aircraft of the Slovak Air Force - C-27J Spartan transport aircraft in its foreign premiere and UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter. Special machines are send by the Royal Norwegian Air Force - DA-20 for electronic combat and anti-submarine P-3C Orion. The latter is a rare guest at public events because of its operational commitments, but there will be again two of the type, when also German Navy will present its Orion.

Also the list of historical vehicles, whose participation is co-organized by the Silesian Museum keeps, is still not complete. However, it will be a cross-section of armament of the Czechoslovak Armed Forces over the last 100 years, supplemented by contributions from other security forces that will present their history. Moreover, event partners and automobile manufacturers, Škoda Auto and Tatra Trucks, will bring some of their products from the past.
