Olympic medallists are coming to NATO Days

07.09.2016, 17:37

The presentation of the Czech Army at this year’s annual NATO Days in Ostrava & Czech Air Force Days will be enriched by the presence of athletes from the Army Sports Centre Dukla. Kayaker Josef Dostál, sport shooter Robin Daněk and pentathlete David Svoboda have confirmed their participation.

During the 22 years of independence of the Czech Army, the Army Sports Centre (ASC) Dukla has changed from a military sports formation to a professional European club whose members are professional soldiers. The quality of the club is also proved by the fact that the athletes of ASC Dukla won half of the medals of the Czech Olympic team at the Olympic Games in Rio this year: Kayaker Josef Dostál and biker Jaroslav Kulhavý both won silver and javelin thrower Barbora Špotáková, sculler Ondřej Synek and kayak four composed of Daniel Havel, Lukáš Trefil, Josef Dostál and Jan Štěrba have all won bronze medals. Overall there were forty-two athletes from ASC Dukla in Rio this year.

Visitors of the last edition of NATO Days had the chance to meet a modern pentathlete and a triple champion of Europe in relay race, relay race of pairs and mix of pairs Natália Dianová and a double champion of Europe in junior track cycling for 1 km Jiří Janošek. This year during Saturday’s programme at the Mošnov airport a double medal winner form Rio, the kayaker Josef Dostál and the sport shooter in trap Robin Daněk will introduce themselves, followed by the golden modern pentathlete from London David Svoboda on Sunday.

Josef Dostál, who will introduce himself on Saturday, has received three precious metals at various Olympics. Holder of a bronze medal in kayak four from London repeated his success in Rio together with Lukáš Trefil, Jan Šterba and Daniel Havel. He added silver in kayak for 1000 meters to his collection afterwards. On the other hand, David Svoboda wasn’t successful in repeating his golden triumph from London and finished in the 9th place without a medal. Another interesting host is going to be Robin Daněk, the sport shooter in trap, who will visit NATO Days on Saturday together with Dostál.

„The performance of the Army Sports Centre Dukla is always a welcome addition to NATO Days. Their attendance this year will certainly please more than their fans, who supported them during the Olympic Games in Rio,” noted Zbyňek Pavlačík, the chairman of Jagello 2000.

The athletes will be shortly interviewed during the programme of NATO Days in the control tower of the air show located near the static displays on the paved area. Every visitor will therefore have a chance to see and hear the athletes. Professional soldiers are also going to give out autographs during an autographing session that is to be held in the tent of ASC Dukla. Except the appearances of Dostál, Daněk and Svoboda, the ASC Dukla will give the visitors the opportunity to try out a laser shooting range and a rowing trainer.
