The Estonian Air Force returns after ten years
The presentation of the Baltic states at the NATO Days in Ostrava & Czech Air Force Days will be completed by Estonia, whose air force will be presented to visitors after ten long years. They will come with M28 Skytruck transport aircraft for a premiere static demonstration.
The Skytruck is one of the variants of the M28 aircraft produced by the Polish company PZL Mielec. Although these aircraft are regularly presented at NATO Days by the Polish Navy, they will be presented in Estonian colours for the first time.
"We were very pleasantly surprised by Estonia's confirmation of participation, not only because this country is not one of the regular participants of our event and will be presenting itself only for the second time. We are happy that at this time it will contribute to the presentation of the international community and the Euro-Atlantic partnership at our event," says Zbyněk Pavlačík, chairman of Jagello 2000. "At the same time, this is a relatively exclusive static display, as this aircraft in Estonian colours is not often presented."
In 2012, the Estonian Air Force sent an An-2 aircraft to Mošnov, but this type was retired and replaced by M28 machines. Estonia uses them mainly for the transport of people and material and for maritime patrolling, in addition to being able to carry out precision combat landings, combat search and rescue missions, evacuation and disaster relief missions.
Estonia received Skytruck aircraft in 2019 from the US Air Force, which designated them as C-145A. The Americans had previously used these twin-engine transport aircraft to support special operations in Afghanistan and East Africa, using their short take off and landing and high altitude capabilities.
