MQ-9 Reaper: first time in the Central Europe

At this year's NATO Days in Ostrava & the Czech Air Force Days, the US Air Force's MQ-9 Reaper drone will be on display for the first time at a public event in Central Europe. It will be possible to see him until Sunday noon when its preparations for departure from the Czech Republic begin.

Long endurance in the air, designed for the destruction of static and mobile ground targets, modern sensors, without the risk of endangering the pilot's life. Even so, the multi-purpose drone (UAV) MQ-9 Reaper, a representative of the expanding phenomenon of combat drones, could be briefly described.

"The MQ-9 Reaper drone is the imaginary icing on the cake of this year's NATO Days. Its participation is also possible thanks to the ongoing Ample Strike exercise, in which Reaper is involved," comments Zbyněk Pavlačík, Chairman of Jagello 2000. "This is a unique matter, but it is necessary to consider that due to logistical demands on Sunday noon will start preparation for Monday's departure in a C-5 aircraft."

Two decades ago, drones and drones were used primarily to obtain information on the battlefield or to survey the enemy's rear. But that changed with the advent of the MQ-9 Reaper.

"Reaper is a standard for drones. It belongs to the absolute top in its field," adds Jan Čadil, editor-in-chief of the magazine Letectví a Kosmonautika. "Its main advantage is endurance, which allows operational deployment of up to 30 hours, as well as the variability of use. Reaper can be used for both reconnaissance and combat operations," adds Čadil.

MQ-9 Reaper's participation in the event for the general public is still very rare, making it the first performance in mainland Europe. Apart from NATO Days, the Reaper was only seen at the RIAT Fairford airshow.
