Rafael to present the SPYDER system at its Czech public premiere

03.09.2025, 11:35

This year’s NATO Days in Ostrava & Czech Air Force Days will once again feature the traditional showcase of leading representatives of the defense industry. Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, in cooperation with the Army of the Czech Republic, will present All-in-One model of one of today’s most advanced air defense systems SPYDER.

This combat-proven technology provides rapid and flexible protection against a wide spectrum of aerial threats. It is a fully integrated system that combines radar, electro-optical sensors, and launchers into a single vehicle, enabling immediate deployment with minimal logistical support. Its high mobility, fully autonomous operation, and ability to become operational within just a few minutes ensure a robust level of protection for both forces and critical infrastructure against aircraft, helicopters, unmanned aerial vehicles, and guided missiles.

Thanks to the fact that the SPYDER system will soon become part of the armament of the 251st Air Defence Missile Battalion in Strakonice, Rafael, in cooperation with the Czech Army, will bring a SPYDER-MR launcher. For the air defence forces, it will replace the obsolete Soviet 2K12 KUB system, thereby strengthening the ability to respond swiftly to current security threats and ensuring effective protection of the airspace—an ability that, as demonstrated by the war in Ukraine, has proven to be absolutely crucial in modern conflicts. The Czech defence industry is also playing a significant role in the project for the Czech Armed Forces: more than 30% of the production involves the Military Technical Institute, the company RETIA, and a number of other domestic entities. In total, the Army will receive four batteries, each consisting of a radar, four launchers, a reloading vehicle, and command and fire-control systems. The delivery will also include equipment for system operation and maintenance, including spare parts.

In addition to SPYDER, this Israeli company manufactures a wide range of systems forming part of its integrated and multi-domain portfolio. Among them are the MIC4AD modular command-and-control system, which provides a unified air situation picture and defense coordination; the Iron Beam high-energy laser system for neutralizing rockets, mortar shells, and drones; and the Trophy Active Protection System – the only combat-proven vehicle protection system in the world, deployable on platforms such as Leopard, Abrams, Merkava, K2, and others. Rafael’s already extensive portfolio of cutting-edge defense solutions is further complemented by the Sky Spotter passive electro-optical early warning system and Orbiter Aeronautics unmanned aerial vehicles.
