The Wings of the Storm from Croatia will be the second acrobatic group of this year's NATO Days

19.06.2022, 08:55

In addition to the Swiss Patrouille Suisse, the NATO Days in Ostrava & Czech Air Force Days will also welcome the acrobatic group The Wings of the Storm (Krila Oluje in Croatian) with PC-9M turboprop. The Croatian Air Force is returning to the event after the successful premiere of this group in 2018.

The Wings of the Storm fly in a six-member formation with PC-9M aircraft, which is regularly presented by the Slovenian Air Force at NATO Days. The group's pilots, unlike most aerobatic groups, remain active flight instructors who use standard unmodified aircraft for their performances. They are not equipped with smoke emitters and thus the effect of the demonstration depends only on the pilots‘ skills and coordination.

Change: Dynamic display of PC-9Ms was cancelled (16th September 2022).

"The wings of the storm are a world-renowned aerobatic group, and the award from the RIAT air show is just one of the proofs. Their performance, during which the planes approach less than two meters, will once again offer a great experience to our visitors," says Zbyněk Pavlačík, chairman of Jagello 2000. "Moreover, this group will complement both the solo demonstration of the Slovenian PC-9M and the Patrouille Suisse group, whose concept is significantly different due to the supersonic aircraft used."

PC-9M

PC-9M is part of the turboprop aircraft family of the Swiss company Pilatus. It is a tandem-seat machine, which is generally used for training and close air support tasks, in which case they are also equipped with appropriate hardpoints. In total, about 250 pieces of the machine were produced.

PC-9M aircraft in the Croatian Air Force in the total number of 17 pieces are designed primarily for advanced training before the pilots sit in the supersonic MiG-21. However, due to their obsolescence, the Croats plan to retire them and replace them with more powerful Rafale aircraft of the French manufacturer Dassault.
